in Vieques. There were 3 Vietnam Veterans and one Veteran of the Korean
War; some are workers who must work during the day to support their families
and do their clandestine work during the night to defend their land and
their health from the Navy's attacks...

La Marina ataca al pueblo Puertorriqueño con gases- La Coalición
Nacional Puertorriqueña
vino a Vieques con un grupo de 150 personas para expresar su solidaridad
con nuestra lucha por la paz. Se organizó una conferencia de prensa
en el Campamento de Justicia y Paz, donde se ataron cintas simbólicas
en la verja ubicada en el Campamento García. La Coalición
decidieron caminar de forma pacífica al Campamento Luisa Guadalupe
y que está a 500 metros de distancia. La marcha fue dirigida por
el Alcalde de Vieques Dámaso Serrano, Manny Mirabal Presidente
de la Coalición, y otros dirigentes de la lucha pro-paz de Vieques.

El miércoles 25 de julio, el Colectivo de Solidaridad "Amigos de Puerto
Rico" en México realizó un piquete frente a la Embajada gringa en la ciudad
de México. Medio centenar de compañeras y compañeros, con mantas y pancartas,
conmemoramos el 105 aniversario de la invasión gringa a Puerto Rico demandando
la libertad de los presos políticos, el retiro de los militares de Vieques
y por un Puerto Rico libre y socialista.

Vieques Mayor Hands Out Eviction Notice to the Navy -Vieques Mayor Dámaso Serrano, presented the Navy and its Commander,
George W. Bush, with a notice to vacate the base immediately and to respect
the will of the people of Vieques who voted 68% strong that the Navy stop
the bombing immediately, leave Vieques, cleanup the contamination and
return the lands to its citizens.

Vieques Vote to Get the Navy Out -With a participation
of the 80.5% of the electorate, the Vieques' Anti-Navy Movement won the
referendum with an overwhelming majority. 68% voted for option 2, which
called for the "Immediate and permanent termination of the military exercises
and bombings of the Navy in Vieques. Withdrawal of the Navy from Vieques
and cleaning and return of viequense lands to its citizens."

Enormous Caravan Foreshadows
Anti-Navy Victory - The campaign in support
of option 2 (the immediate cease of all military practices) in tomorrow's
referendum on the future of the US Navy's presence on this Puerto Rican
island closed con broche de oro. Spirits soared high and enthusiasm
seemed greater than ever as hundreds of cars filed through the roads of
every barrio of Vieques, to the applause of huge crowds that awaited anxiously
on the roadside.

Vieques Civil Disobedience at the United Nations: 15 Arrested
- Today, once again Human Rights activists engaged in peaceful civil disobedience
at the United Nations (U.N.) in pursuit of an end to the bombings and
genuine justice and peace for the people of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
This action was taken to:
1. Urge the intervention of the Human Rights Commission of the U.N. in
order to prevent the scheduled resumption of bombings later this month;
2. Protest the Bush administration's heavy-handed policy against Vieques
activists in the island nation;
3. Denounce the Navy controlled, undemocratic referendum on its future
presence in Vieques;
4. Denounce the incarceration of State Assemblyman José Rivera, City Councilman
and Borough President Candidate Adolfo Carrión, Bronx County Democratic
Chair Roberto Ramírez, and National Civil Rights Leader Rev. Al Sharpton.

MASS DEMONSTRATION
OF SOLIDARITY FOR JAILED ACTIVISTS - Several thousand Puerto Ricans
gathered in front of the Federal Prison to protest the excessive jail
sentences imposed on civil disobedients for "trespassing" on Navy property
in Vieques. Activists entered the Vieques training range during several
weeks this past April in the hopes of stopping the Navy's renewed bombing
exercises. Although these were succesfully stalled at several points,
the Navy continued to bomb in full awareness that there were people in
the line of fire.

of the demands of the peopleof Vieques of 'Navy Out' and 'No More Bombs.'
Organized by the Boricua Human Rights Network, the manifestation was supported
by several Vieques' grassroots leaders that were present and addressed
the people. The activity ended with the arrest of 75 people in an act
of civil disobedience in front of the White House...
