Viequenses "Encapuchados" Ready for Civil Disobedience
Wed., April 4, 2002

Today, 4 Viequenses "encapuchados" (masked ones) granted a special interview with the Puerto Rican media in Vieques. There were 3 Vietnam Veterans and one Veteran of the Korean War; some are workers who must work during the day to support their families and do their clandestine work during the night to defend their land and their health from the Navy's attacks. They explained that they have been working for months getting ready for this round of civil disobedience to stop the bombing in Vieques. These 4 individuals are working with 3 groups which are preparing to enter soon into the bombing range.

They explained that there are new challenges in carrying out civil disobedience since the P.R. police are present in Vieques in large numbers and since they are repeatedly patrolling the 5 miles of fence dividing the Navy and civilian areas. These challenges will be met and the bombing will be interrupted even though lives are put in the line of fire.
