Vieques at the Forefront of the Puerto Rican Day Parade

Three Million March in Parade Dedicated to the Struggle for Peace in Vieques

This year, the famous Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York, was dedicated to the struggle for peace in Vieques and the memory of Puerto Rican independence leader Pedro Albizu Campos. Close to three million (3,000,000) people participated in the Parade, which was held on Sunday June 11, 2000.

Several floats, hundreds of Viequenses and thousands of supporters for peace in Vieques, marched down Fifth Avenue as hundreds of thousands carried signs that read "Peace for Vieques" and "U.S. Navy out of Vieques", and chanted "Vieques Sí, Marina no!" and "Stop the Bombs Now!".

Tres Millones Marchan en Desfile Dedicado a la Lucha por la Paz en Vieques

Este año, el famoso Desfile Boricua en Nueva York, se le dedicó a la lucha por la paz en Vieques y a la memoria de Don Pedro Albizu Campos. Cerca de tres millones (3,000,000) de personas participaron en el Desfile, que se celebró el domingo 11 de junio del 2000.

Varias carrozas, cientos de Viequenses y miles de puertorriqueños y otros que apoyan la paz para Vieques, marcharon por la Quinta Avenida mientras cientos de miles cargaban rótulos que leían "Paz para Vieques" y "U.S. Navy out of Vieques" y cantaban "¡Vieques Sí, Marina No!" y "¡Paren el Bombardeo Ya!".
